MODley Crew Modern Quilting Group
The MODley Crew meets on a rotating schedule: Everyone is welcome as a participant or as a spectator. You don't have to sign up or attend every month. Drop ins are encouraged.
This group of modern quilters started in 2015 in an attempt to fill a gap that existed in “normal” sewing/quilting techniques used, and to draw younger, modern crafters into our guild as members and into what had been a mostly traditional quilting world.
Our modern quilters can do either small art pieces or (most commonly) smaller quilts for the KGH – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Modern quilting can break down “traditional” block formations and colours in order to reform them in different more simplified ways. It also stresses the creation of “free form” quilts & art pieces that incorporate more space, challenge the norm and allow the actual quilting patterns of a piece to shine. The fabrics/colours used in modern quilting are plain and bright - usually from the primary group on the colour wheel such as blue, white, green, yellow, red, and black, and rarely have any decorative printing on them
Come and join us and find out just how creative your brain could be!

Block Lotto
Block Lotto Guidelines
- - Each block submitted gives the participant one chance to win all the blocks. Participants will get a ticket at the time they submit their blocks.
- - Anyone in the guild can enter the block lotto. No one is obliged to enter the block lotto but the more blocks that are entered will mean a better prize for the winner.
- - Please follow the instructions for the blocks with regards to color selection or construction. This gives the winner similar blocks to use however she chooses to use them.
- - There are no restrictions on the number of times that a participant can win.
- - Since this is an initiative of the MODley Crew the block lotto will only happen on the weeks that are designated for the MODley Crew.
- - Should there be many blocks entered for any lotto there may be two winners. For example, if there are 50 blocks entered there might be two winners. We can all decide at the time by group consensus.
- - Block Lotto has only been planned from September 2023 to June 2024.
